The Professor?

We are going to have a professor, right?
I think we should have one and follow the tradition of naming her/him after a tree.
Here are my name and personality ideas...

Professor Maple. A tough woman capable of taking care of herself. She believes strongly in science and nature. She hates when people pollute and often goes to protests. (Good for the plot with the villain, huh?)

Professor Fir. A very shy and quiet man (like elm). He has no backbone, but still believes in protecting the environment. He often writes letters to big companies to stop pollution.

Do you guys have any ideas? Quite frankly, I don't like mine to much. ;^^

Professor Acacia might be a good name too. I believe Dedede came up with it, but he never seems to come here anymore.

Each pokemon professor specializes in a certain field:

- Professor Oak studies the relationships between Pokémon and humans
- Professor Elm studies Pokémon breeding patterns
- Professor Birch studies Pokémon habitats
- Professor Rowan studies Pokémon evolution
- Professor Juniper studies the origins of Pokémon

So what will our professor specialize in?

Well, the only thing I can think of that has to do with the plot is to study Pokemon Chemical Structure or something.

It doesn't necessarily have to do with the plot, you know. In the second generation, Elm specializes in breeding because they introduced breeding in that generation. In third gen, Birch specializes in habitats because they introduced new environmental factors such as deserts and tall grass. In fourth gen, Rowan specializes in evolution because they made a bunch of new evolutions for existing pokemon in that generation.

We're not really introducing any new game mechanics, are we? I doubt it.

Hmmm. Thats something I've never even noticed. Cool.
Anywho, we should think of something new to introduce...Let me think...

I like your Prof. Maple it fit's in well with my ecosystem based story line and seems appropriate with the recent ecological disaster in Japan and all.

That's a great idea, because I really did like Acacia's name.

Maybe that Prof. Acacia is studying why Pokémon live with humans.

Anyway, I obviously support Acacia, being my own idea. Fir is pretty nice too, although, to be honest, I don't really like Maple (not the actually person, I mean the name).

Ok, Just to refresh things over here cz the professor for me is the most important character in the game, and thigs are starting to cool down in here, Here is my idea:

Since you all like acacia for the name (Even that I don't, But still, majority rules) she can be a professor that studies the effects of pollution on the behavior of pokemon and their way to defend themselves against this thing (Pollution)...

She can be shown in a white medical robe and always wearing gloves and facemask... She is a little bit psycho in the matter of cleanliness and always cleans after others... She gets really angry of people not caring about the environment and polluting the air, water and earth. she has a bike for transportation and tends to get a little bit mischievous by protesting against cars and factories and making campaigns for ruining the business of people wich has made her lots of enemies and haters and one of them is the main evil character that seeks revenge...

So how do you like it?

Sounds too radical. I don't like it. Professors aren't supposed to receive a ton of characterization like that. You're just over-complicating things.

Also, I always imagined him being an old man with a long beard like in my fic.

Personally, I would prefer a woman. Are too much male professor, and B/W idea was great.

All I was trying to do is to put some personality in the character...

I know that is complicated for a person that just gives some advice and the starter pokemon... But I wanted you people to think like he/she is a real person when you are designing her/him and give him/her a more meaningful role to play at your game... It's the details that matter for me... But again thats just me...

I personally like the Maple personality with the name Acacia. I agree we shouldn't go too deep into the professor's character, but a little more personality could be a good thing. It's really about balance I suppose.
